Appointments in FTII made as per prescribed guidelines: Govt

Gajendra-ChauhanNew Delhi, Jul 24 -Amid the row over appointment of television actor Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India, the Government today informed the Lok Sabha that all appointments made in the FTII were as per the prescribed guidelines. "The appointment in the FTII is made as per the prescribed guidelines incorporated in FTII rules,’’Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said in a written reply. Mr Rathore said he is in touch with the representatives of the students and the alumni, who are on an agitation to protest the appointment of Mr Chauhan as FTII chairman. "The Governemnt had held talks on July 3 with representatives of the students and alumni of the FTII wherein they were told that the appointment of (Mr Gajendra Singh) was made in accordance with the prescribed rules. They were asked to resume their academic activities,’’Mr Rathore said. Mr Rathore said the appointment of FTII is governed as per the set of provisions of FTII rules. "As per section 3 (1) of the FTII rules, president of the institute is nominated by the Central government. Further, under section 22 of the Rules, president of the institute acts as chairman of the Governing Council,’’Mr Rathore said. The students of the FTII, a premier television and film institute of India, have been on an agitation for over a month to protest the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as FTII chairman.
