Amit Shah sets up panel to visit violence-hit Basirhat areas of West Bengal


New Delhi:  To step up pressure on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, BJP chief Amit Shah today set up a four-member panel to visit Basirhat areas in North 24 Parganas district to inquire into communal violence in the state. The committee will comprise of senior party leader and in-charge of West Bengal unit Kailash Vijayvargiya and Members of Parliament, including Om Prakash Mathur, Satyapal Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi. The party delegation will visit the Baduria and adjoining areas and later Mr Shah may depute a party delegation to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in order to urge him to take cognisance of the "deteriorating law and order" situation in Baduria areas as also in the hills -- where Gorkhaland State Movement has turned violent. Bengal unit chief Dilip Ghosh yesterday demanded imposition of President's rule in the state.
