Chandigarh:  Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said the social media proliferation was posing a tough challenge to the print media, necessitating enhanced focus on the former as a potent tool to disseminate information instantaneously at the grass roots level. In an informal interaction with a select gathering after launching the Babushahi Mobile Application here, the Chief Minister said the importance of social media had grown multifold in the changed Information Technology (IT) scenario and this unique initiative would be of immense benefit to researchers, politicians and other individuals seeking instant access to subject-wise data. He congratulated veteran journalist Baljit Balli for the launch of the app, designed for quick dissemination of information regarding politics, state administration, business, entertainment and various ongoing developments across the globe instantly. Capt Singh said the mobile app would serve as a ready reckoner to get information on any subject, especially related to politics in Punjab for which politicians had to depend on the Punjab Vidhan Sabha library/records or the reference libraries of newspapers as primary sources of information. The Chief Minister also appreciated Mr Balli’s contribution to the online media with his existing news portal, in English and Punjabi. Mr Balli said it was the success of the portal that had encouraged his team to launch the mobile app, which will further augment the communication link between the state administration and the people, not just in Punjab but those settled across the globe. He said both the English and Punjabi versions of the app were available on Android, while Iphone had only English version at the moment, but would soon have a Punjabi version also.
