Sangrur : A local court today granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Yadav in the Malerkotla Quran desecration case. AAP leader and party's legal cell head Himmat Singh Shergll said the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge A S Virk granted bail to Yadav. Vijay, one of the accused arrested in connection with the alleged incident of sacrilege of Quran in Malerkotla on June 24, had said he had acted at the behest of the AAP MLA as he was paid Rs one crore by Yadav.
On July 9, Punjab Police had questioned Naresh Yadav for over eight hours in connection with the case. The Mehrauli MLA, who was booked under section 109, 153 A and 295 of the IPC, was arrested from Delhi by the Punjab Police on July 24 and was produced before the court on the next day. The court remanded him to police custody for two days on July 25. After expiry of his police custody on July 27, the court sent the AAP MLA to judicial custody till August 1. Earlier on July 28, Yadav moved the court for bail but the court rejected his bail plea.
