75 pc Aadhaar enrollment done in UP: Allahabad tops chart

Lucknow : Allahabad district has topped the charts in Uttar Pradesh with 45.15 lakh Aadhaar generation, followed by Lucknow with 40.26 lakh and Kanpur Nagar with 37.59 lakh. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has generated 15.84 crore Aadhaar numbers in Uttar Pradesh, which is 75 per cent of the estimated population of 21.12 crore of the state. Coverage of Aadhaar generation for adult population has reached more than 99 per cent of the total population in that age group. The 5.50 crore of the population are remaining to be covered by Aadhaar and most of them are below 18 years of age. UIDAI has strategised to cover the remaining population bifurcating it in two groups with enrollment plans to cover children aged below five years of age through Aanganwadis and children in 5-18 years age group at schools and colleges. Necessary instructions to the field functionaries have already been issued by the UP government for expeditious enrollment of remaining population in these age groups. Further, more than 3,414 tablets have been deployed throughout the state to enroll children below five years of age. Official sources here today said,''at present there are more than 7,434 enrollment kits operated by about 90 enrollment agencies, which include more than 5,000 Permanent Enrollment Centers (PECs) being operated in various parts of the state to facilitate residents not only to enroll for Aadhaar but also to resolve other issues like printing of e-Aadhaar and updation of Aadhaar etc.'' Steps have also been taken by UIDAI to facilitate the enrollment of old and disabled residents so that they do not face any problem during the Aadhaar enrollment.
