539 gm gold seized from passenger at Dabolim Intl Airport

gold_bar_generic_smuggling_240Panaji, Jul 19 - Customs officials at International Airport Dabolim seized 539 gm of gold worth Rs 15 lakh from a passenger, who arrived from Sharjah by Qatar Airways, here today. According to airport sources, the Customs officials grew suspicious, when the accused Shakeel Ahmed (40) was coming out of the airport. He was subjected to through search which revealed that he was travelling with the gold hidden in wheels of trolley bag. Ahmed, resident of Thane, Maharashtra, told investigators that he was carrying the gold, which was given to him by one Amir Sah of Bhatkal, Karnataka, to be handed over to smugglers in India. He was detained and further investigations were underway, sources added.
