3 women among five injured as Pak twice violates truce on LoC

Jammu, Jul 18 - At least five people, including three women, were injured in cross border firing as Pakistan in less than 24 hours twice violated the ceasefire on the Line of Control in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir. ‘’Pakistan troops this afternoon fired heavily at the forward posts besides the bordering hamlets thus violating the ceasefire,’’ a Defence spokesperson here said. He said at least five villagers from Shahpur Kandi area in Keran Sector of Poonch district were injured as Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing followed by 81 mm mortar shells. ‘’The injured included three women and two men,’’ said the spokesperson, adding that they were rushed to the district hospital. Pakistan hours after targeted forward posts in Nowshera Sector of Rajouri, fired heavily in Poonch. "Pakistan troops once again violated ceasefire and opened firing on four Indian forward posts at LoC in Shahpur Kandi belt of Keran in Poonch district," the spokesman added. He said the firing started at 1400 hrs while mortars were also fired. "Intermittent firing was still in progress," he added. Pakistan troops earlier violated the ceasefire by firing small arms and targeting forward posts on the Line of Control in Rajouri district. "Pakistan had resorted to unprovoked firing across the Line of Control in Nowshera sector," he added He said at 2125 hrs last night, Pak troops opened small arms fire on Indian troops deployed in forward posts in Nowshera sector. "The intermittent fire lasted till 2355 hrs," he said, adding that troops on own side of LoC retaliated appropriately. "No casualty or damage reported till last reports came in," said the spokesperson. Meanwhile, no exchange of sweets took place between the Pakistan Rangers and the BSF troops on the International Border and the Pakistani and Indian Army to mark Eid celebrations.
