Srinagar:  Police today arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 40 kg poppy straw in separate incidents in south Kashmir. A police spokesperson here said following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established at Behibagh in Kulgam. He said police intercepted a person at the checkpoint and during checking, recovered 10 kg poppy straw from him. The accused, identified as Mohammad Ashraf Shah, was immediately taken into custody. Meanwhile, a police party intercepted a vehicle on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir. During checking, police recovered 30 kg poppy straw from the vehicle. "The driver of the vehicle, identified as Mohammad Rafiq Mir, was immediately taken into custody," he added. Police have registered cases in both the incidents and initiated investigation to nab other people involved in drug trafficking.
